How to Submit Your Site to the Search Engines

Don't forget to submit your site to the search engines. Many people believe that once they have a website they will automatically be in the search engines. This simply is not true. I compare having a website address to having a physical address. Let's say I opened a brick and mortar Christian bookstore today. Would my store automatically be listed in the yellow pages today? If course not! I would need to let the phone company know my address and it would take time for my listing to be published. It's the same for your new Internet address. You may want to refer to basic SEO.

Of Yahoo and Google, I have found Yahoo is the easier of the two to get listed with. Frankly, Google seems to change what they look for in websites more often and therefore can be more difficult to get into and/or maintain ranking, but you definitely want to submit your site to Google anyway. That way, if your friend or family member accidently puts your web site address in the "search bar" instead to the "address bar," your site will still show up. Here are a few links. Happy submitting!

Other Internet Based Ideas

Exchange Links

Exchange links with other sites which are relevant to your niche. Avoid exchanging links with just anyone as this may actually hurt your search results. Your want your link exchange partners to be relevant to your niche keywords in some way. It tells the search engines that you are important to your niche and relevant enough to link to.

Blog It

You may want to start blogging. What is a "blog"? It's a web log. Kind of like an online journal. Blogging is easy to start and it's free! Provide readers interesting information while sprinkling in product recommendations. This can be a great way to build traffic to your store. Why? It builds exterior links to your website. We recommend creating several interesting targeted, keyword rich specific blogs. Example: maybe you would like to blog on parenting. On a daily basis write interesting content and upload it to your blog. The content of parenting will bring in the readers. Then, add a recommended parenting book link to an item within your store.

Forums

Whenever posting on a forum, be sure to include a signature with your website address in it! It's a great way to get yet another link to your store on the web.

What is a .Com

Now, you may be thinking that your bookstore name is a little long with ".isalesdept.com" in the middle of the address. If that's the case, you can get your own .com. It requires registering a domain name from an outside company. It will cost about $8.95 per year. The domain name company we prefer is the Christian owned reseller... KingsDomains.com. It is nice to use the shorter web site address on your business cards. Let me give you an example of how this works.

Then, you may want to visit Vista Print. They offer a beautiful collection of full color business cards.
